Hello. You’ve come to the write place!

I’m Scott Emmons, a versatile writer with over twenty years of experience in copywriting, digital media, children’s television, greeting cards, and more. My career path has been unconventional, challenging, full of twists and turns, often surprising, and always a blast!

Copywriting

Whether you need light, casual writing for your company newsletter or something short and pithy for your direct mail campaign, I’ll work with you to create engaging copy that elevates your brand. In partnership with Kansas City firms Rarified Creative and Bernstein-Rein, I’ve helped companies as diverse as Premier Tech and eclipse Rx reach their marketing goals.

TV and Digital Media

I spent eight years on the creative staff at JibJab, writing for short animations and tentpole features like the annual JibJab Year in Review. As the studio branched out into children’s content, I had the exciting experience of helping to develop the StoryBots property, contributing many educational songs and other content to what soon became an Emmy-winning Netflix series.

Children’s Books

My first picture book, Hugo Makes a Change, written in collaboration with illustrator Mauro Gatti, was published by Flying Eye Books in 2017. To date, I’ve written all the licensed StoryBots books published by Penguin Random House. In 2022, I launched Brainytops Press, my own line of children’s books combining coloring and other activities with fun, rhyming stories.

Greeting Cards

I began my professional writing career in the humor studio at Hallmark. My experience there taught me to write with a clear business objective, to channel my creativity into messages that people want to buy and send. I wrote many bestselling cards, some of which you may have sent or received yourself! Although I left Hallmark in 2010, I’ve continued to write for smaller companies like RSVP Greetings and  Leanin’ Tree.

Over the course of my career, I’ve learned to write in a wide variety of voices for different audiences. I’m eager to talk with you about your next project!

But don’t just take my word for it…

Have a look around and hit me up when you’re ready!
